Vol. 65 Day 6 7/6/14 Dear Son and Daughter, We’ve been looking at the difference between being a disciple versus being a student, or a pupil. A student gets the information, however, the disciple walks the walk of the one teaching and instructing them. Yeshua instructed us to make disciples. 1 Corinthians 4:15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. We need fathers! We need the mature! One translation instead of saying instructors actually says boy leaders! The majority of believers today lack maturity. Who is discipling you? Who have you adapted to? Do you ask yourself in all decisions what would Yeshua do? And, what would my mentor do? Are they one and the same? Or, are there areas where you still do your own thing? Do you still make choices that you know Yeshua or your mentor wouldn’t make? Do we still have opinions and preferences that cause us to make choices other than what we know our mentor would make? If so, are we truly a disciple? No, we are a student. Most of our churches today are full of pupils, but lack mature disciples! Yeshua gathered to Himself a small group of apprentices. He spent His time living with those disciples, instructing and teaching them. Yeshua gave them direction that if obeyed and followed would cause them to walk and talk just like He Himself walked and talked. We can say we are connected at the hip to our mentor. We can say we are a disciple, but, are we truly walking out the teaching and instruction we are given by them? We must mature to discipleship versus being a student. We can deliver information in an email. However, transformation only happens when we walk the walk of the one discipling us! The email can start the process, but only relationship can develop or make a disciple, an apprentice. Discipleship happens when we walk together, eat together, play and experience pain and joy together. Discipleship doesn’t happen when we have an occasional encounter. Discipleship happens when we have adapted to the journey, day in and day out for years. We don’t need spectators, we need apprentices! We need those who are ready to walk the talk, together! We will evangelize as we walk as Yeshua walked, as we adapt to a mentor who walks that walk. We will mature as we adapt and cease to do our thing and only do His! We Christians have done a lot of recruiting, getting others to come to Christ. However, we must move on to discipling. We’ve given others a lot of information, but we’ve greatly lacked in discipline and maturity. Discipling isn’t working with the masses. It’s one on one over years! We can’t be an apprentice unless we know the one we are copying! Yeshua chose twelve! Yeshua picked them for His own reasons. We aren’t told why He chose them. However, we saw their reaction to His call to follow Him! Mark 1:16-20 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men. They immediately left their nets and followed Him. When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him. Today, I know of one I am to disciple. How are you doing? Love and Prayers, Mom
