Volkswagen has received over $577 million in public subsidies from our city, county and state government - the largest handout of taxpayer money to an auto-manufacturer in US history. That works out to about $288,000 per job. We are all paying for those jobs and we all have a vested interest in working together with Volkswagen workers to ensure that working on the assembly line floor of the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant is a long-term career, not an inevitable medical emergency.
