Volleyball: Hallsville is coached by Kayla Jackson who is entering her third year as head coach of the team. Last year saw the Ladycats win district with a perfect 10-0 record in district play. Jackson says she likes her chances of repeating as district champions but knows it’s not going to be easy. “We have to come out and work extra hard,” Jackson said. We can’t just put it on cruise control.” She’s particularly optimistic about her team’s defense. “We’re defensively strong,” she said. “We’re pretty solid there. We’ve got a pretty good offense too but we just need to bring it all together.” Jackson said last year’s team had five or six seniors, which is the about the same amount of this year. “They (last year’s seniors) were great leaders but we’ve got a lot of girls who are capable of leading this year,” she said. “We’ve got some kids who are going to have to step it up and take up that leadership role. Our senior leadership is solid and they’ve been with me since they were sophomores.” Some of the returning starters include Setter Haley, Savannah McAmis and Allison Lawrence.
