Volunteer Programme for the African Nations Championship, South Africa 2014 By: Site Editor on AUG 26 With exactly 141 Days to go before South Africa Kicks off the Orange African Nations Championships 2014, the tournament is gaining momentum as preparations are in place to welcome the top 16 Nations that will compete for glory. For the successful execution of this tournament which will be in its third edition, the Local Organising Committee has set in place a comprehensive programme that will ensure that South Africa delivers, on behalf of CAF, the LOC board and SAFA, a memorable African football showpiece. Therefore, the Orange CHAN 2014 Local Organising Committee is proud to officially announce the African Nations Championships 2014 Volunteer Programme. This programme, which is a call to all South Africans and the entire African continent, is crucial for the smooth operations and implementations of the tournament. The volunteers, who will serve as the public face of CHAN 2014 will be the highly instrumental in the critical departments of the tournament such as Marketing, Media, Accreditation, Transport, Logistics and Protocol services. The Local Organising Committee CEO, Mvuzo Mbebe stressed the importance of having an efficient Volunteer Programme. A volunteer is an individual who offers him-/herself for a particular service without any expectation of financial rewards but the gratitude of promoting good, and the feeling of self-worth and respect. For the Orange African Nations Championship, South Africa 2014 (the “CHAN 2014”) to truly be a success, the backing of the people of South Africa, and indeed the entire African continent, is important. The Volunteer Programme aims to bring people from all walks of life together to lend a helping hand in staging such a massive event. The volunteers, who will be the public face of the tournament, will play a vital role in all aspects of the CHAN 2014. The volunteers will provide a service to the official CAF/LOC events and tournaments focusing on the CAF Family, official Venues of the Tournament, Sponsors, CAF/LOC Headquarters, Protocol and other official designated areas of the CHAN 2014 Local Organising Committee. With the tournament set to Kick Off from 11 January to 1 February 2014, the successful candidates that have gone through the security screening process will be provided with extensive tournament specific training to equip them with all the necessary skills and information required to understand their responsibilities. The LOC has made provision to ensure that the volunteers are provided with the following: An Official Orange CHAN 2014 uniform, provided by Adidas Specific training, that is intended to prepare them to carry out their roles and responsibilities Meals and refreshments when on duty. A certificate of appreciation or acknowledgement for their participation in the official events of the Orange African Nations Championship A limited liability insurance whilst on duty A stipend amount of R200.00 for everyday that they are on duty, payable after the tournament ending 1 February 2014 How to apply Applications are now open.
