Volunteers needed in , Southern Trust and County Down areas. The MOVE project at NIACRO, funded by the BIG Lottery Fund, supports young people at risk of offending through a 1 to 1 mentoring relationship. After completion of Volunteer induction training, volunteers are matched with an at risk young person. MOVE mentors meet weekly with their young people for up to 12 months, whilst staying in close contact with their supervisor who will provide on-going support and supervision. A mentor’s role is to support the young person (aged 13-18) to achieve their goals in a number of areas including: personal & social development, numeracy and literacy skills, education, training or employment and community participation. Volunteers must be aged 20+ and willing to commit to the MOVE project for up to 12 months. We are looking for individuals who have a genuine interest in supporting young people, are eager to encourage and motivate young people to make positive changes in their lives and who are reliable and committed. The scheme offers volunteers the chance to gain valuable experience at building a one to one meaningful relationship with an at risk young person. This is a rewarding opportunity that will not only appeal to those wishing to volunteer in a fun and flexible role, but also be of particular interest to those wishing to ‘make a difference’ or gain experience in the fields of social work, youth work, social care, criminology and related fields. MOVE mainly works with young people living in the Belfast and Southern Trust areas. However we also require volunteers from outside these areas too. At present we are specifically looking for volunteers within County Down, Portadown, and Belfast, but this can change quickly so give us a ring to see if we have a volunteering opportunity near you.
