Volunteers play a pivotal role in our work at NAYA Family Center, we were built on the volunteer spirit and are currently recruiting volunteers to support with the following programs: • ASPIRE Mentors: College mentors provide one-on-one advising to help students continue their education beyond high school. Watch the video below to learn about ASPIRE. Mentors are asked to commit to 1-3 hours per week. You can create your own schedule in coordination with your mentee. College Night is every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 - 6:00pm and provides a collective meeting space for the ASPIRE program. Start date: Early October. • Learning Center: After school tutors support with students aged K-8th grade in recreation, study and meal times. Tutor students in school subjects such as Math, Writing, and Reading. Hours: 2:30-6pm. Start date: October 6th • Culture Night: Event assistance to maintain the flow of the evening; working the registration table, set-up and clean up, etc. Learn about culturally specific crafts, dance and drumming. Assist with set-up and registration or work with youth preschool aged or k-8th grade. Wednesdays 5:30pm - 8pm. Start date: October 1st • Child Care Assistants: Lead activities, coordinating games, crafts and playtime for children ages newborn to 5 years old. Tuesday and Thursdays 5-8pm. Or Wednesdays during Culture Night. • Civic Engagement: We want to get out the #NativeVote ! Are you interested in campaigning, canvassing or phone banking? Hours are flexible! Here are a few upcoming opportunities: - September 23rd, National Voter Registration Day - September 27th, Dancing in the Square powwow - October 1st, Open House @ PSU Native American Student and Community Center - October 11th, Housing to Homeownership Fair - October 14th, Native Professionals & Friends Night - December 6th, NAYA Marketplace • Garden Support: Come to our fall work party! During the workday you’ll participate in such gardening tasks as sowing garlic and onions, setting up the hoop-frame greenhouse, and preparing the soil with compost. Saturday, October 18th, 10am-2pm. • Tax Prep Assistants: Each tax season NAYA Family Center provides a free tax site for community members .Tax season begins early February and runs to the end of tax season, late April. We are looking for 3-6 hours per week commitment. Volunteers earn certification and help file taxes.Orientation and training to begin in late November, early December. Sign-up now!
