Volunteers will be making a statement at the city council meeting - TopicsExpress

Volunteers will be making a statement at the city council meeting on Monday October 7th at 5:30p.m. We welcome the public to join us to show your support. We ask that if you do come to support us that you remain calm and respectful to our elected officials. Our statement (in part) reads: We recognize that the shelter is not without its problems and we know that the shelter is currently well over capacity. This is not acceptable to us as volunteers and we all agree that something must be done. We are willing to use our resources to accomplish the goal of reducing the number of animals to a manageable number, we simply don’t agree that 45 animals in a 27,000 square foot facility is reasonable. Nor do we believe that 30 days is enough time to meet that goal without a mass euthanasia of otherwise healthy adoptable pets... The volunteers at Decatur Animal Services urge you to allow the shelter to continue to operate at cage-space capacity. Our goal is to continue to serve the city of Decatur and prevent unnecessary euthanasia.
