Volunteers’ Day of reckoning – Details of the convoy to the Premier’s Office on Saturday, 26th October 2013 Details of the volunteer demonstration to occur this Saturday have been finalised. They are as follows; When: Saturday, 26th October 2013 Assembly point: Ferny Grove Public Car Park, outside Ferny Grove Station on the Samford Road side of the car park. Assembly time: 8:00 - 9:00 am Departure time: 9:40 am approx. Route: Samford Rd, Settlement Rd, Waterworks Rd Arrival time: 10:20 am approx. Destination: Campbell Newman’s Electoral Office, 221 Waterworks Road, Ashgrove Objective: For a large number of yellow fire appliances and private vehicles to proceed to the Premier’s Ashgrove Electoral Office and peacefully assemble outside his Office. A delegation assembled from Group Officers and RFBAQ Representatives will be available to meet with the Premier at that time. Yellow ribbons will be left outside the Premier’s Office as our calling card. Volunteers are asked to bring with them simple banners and posters they can hold that give our message that we have had enough! Messages such as “Fair Go Jack” or “Implement the Malone Recommendations” are the go. Also, we will leave a more enduring message on the day through tying yellow ribbons outside the Premiers Office, so ensure you bring a supply of yellow ribbon for the day. Our protest will be peaceful and orderly, but we want the Premier to realise we are serious about being heard and that we deserve better than pleasant words… we want concrete commitments to implementing all 91 of the Malone Review Recommendations. This is our final opportunity to present our message to the Minister and Premier that the rural fire volunteers of Queensland demand a better funded, better resourced and independent Rural Fire Service Queensland. At this stage, there has been no commitment given by the Premier to meet with the volunteer delegation on the morning, but we trust he is convinced otherwise. As before, please ensure you advise of your or your Brigade’s attendance on the day by emailing Tony Marks mobile 0422 001 814 or [email protected] (Alan Gillespie is in NSW on deployment and won’t be back until Sunday). This is a really important day for rural fire volunteers. Make sure your voice is heard and be there!
