Voter registration: Wait for Abuja, INEC tells Ladoja, Akala, Balogun, others. on August 21, 2014 . The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has told former governors of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, not to participate in the five-day continuous voter registration (CVR) that commenced in the state yesterday. Also, Second Republic Senator, Chief Lekan Balogun, governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Seyi Makinde, and other electorate, who did not get their permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the state during the distribution exercise, have been told not to re-register. Daily Sun had reported yesterday that Ladoja, Alao-Akala, Balogun, Makinde and others were yet to collect their permanent voter cards. The Public Relations Officer of INEC in the state, Mr. Ayo Folami, in a telephone chat with Daily Sun, said the affected electorate should wait till their cards would be released from the headquarters of the commission in Abuja. His words: “If someone belongs to a polling unit, where INEC officials did not show up at all, that meant they did not send us cards for that unit from Abuja. People in that unit should wait till we get those cards from Abuja. They should not re-register. When we have the cards, we would make enough publicity for them to go and collect their permanent cards. We would stay there for three days as well.” Folami said those that should participate in the CVR were people that had not attained 18 years as at the time the last voter registration exercise was conducted as well as people whose names were omitted in the polling units where PVCs were distributed in the state from August 15 to 17, this year. “But those who belong to the centres where cards had been distributed but their names were omitted will need to re-register at the ward level during the CVR that will hold from August 20 to 25, 2014,” he stated. Folami also appealed to people that had relocated from where they registered during the last voter registration exercise to new places not to re-register in the ongoing continuous registration. “People that registered in one place but have relocated to another place don’t need to re-register. All they need is to write an application requesting for transfer of their registration from wherever they are coming from. If it is inter-state, they would mention the state. If it is from one local government to another in Oyo State, they will still need to write a letter of transfer from local government A to local government B. “The transfer letter would be taken to the electoral officer of their new place of abode. They will not participate in the continuous registration exercise because they have already registered. They should attach the photocopy of their cards to the application letter,” Folami said.
