Votes for secession are confusing. Russia really wants the local population in the Crimea to have a voice on whether they should stay in the Ukraine or join Russia. It makes some sense. Why shouldnt they have a say on whether to stay or go? (Not saying Im in favor of a snap referendum- I find it highly suspicious, to say the least, just saying it makes some sense). But why wont Russia let the Chechens have a referendum on whether to secede from Russia? Why do only some people get to have referendums? On a similar note, why was the West so much in favor of Kosovos seceding from Serbia, but could not accept Serbs in northern Kosovo seceding from Kosovo? Wheres the logic there?
