Vulnerability has its challenges. I advocate for the idea of being open and honest about both strengths and weaknesses. The research shows that it leads to better mental health and stronger relationships. Ive noticed a challenge with it as well, that is amplified by being female. I share my challenges openly, so that I can grow most quickly based on the feedback. An unintended consequence is that some people presume that things are not going well for me, when thats not the case. My business has done VERY well, better than about 90% (or more) of the peers that I started out with back in 2010. It is doing well BECAUSE I have constantly been vulnerable, asking questions, and always seeking betterment through the questioning process. Could it be better? Yes... I could have even more impact. I could cause even more transformation. I could reach even more people. And thats what Im working on. Id suggest that if you are struggling with what you do - whether its a business, your career, or whatever... that maybe its time to put the shield down, get vulnerable, and start asking people questions about how to make it better. And if some people use that to presume that theres something wrong with you or your work, just ignore them and move on.
