Vulture population in India is declined by 99% in the last 15 years. Extinction of vulture will be catastrophic for human population in India as its absence will spread diseases like rabies, anthrax and plague. In one estimate the cost for treatment can reach to 35 billion USD. Decline of vulture in India is mainly due to use of diclofenac in veterinary medicine which vultures cannot metabolize.
