Vuvu’s words of Wisdom 6: Puss in Boots!! So Vuvu has and is going through an incredible growth spurt. He’s fast, taller, more energetic, vocabulary and syntax are way above his age, and ohhhh more talkative. His recent thing is responding to everything with “You’re yaying (lying), yaya yaya pants on faya!” okay press pause there while I put side B. You know those Sundays when you just want to praise anonymously, be in a different environment, preferably closer to home so you do not have to go through the hassle of left turn, right turn, reverse , tip askari etc. It’s not a bad thing, but sometimes the spirit is willing but the body is weak. So we went to another church that we have been seeing on TV – very active, loads of testimonies, a fiery preacher etc, that is close to home and settled in our bu plastic chairs. HO!! nga the sermon starts and if you think pastor is fiery on TV you should see him live or “alive” as Miss Iggs says. Slowly by slowly I realized that this was going to be one of those sermons that focus on witchcraft and the different types of witchcraft rather than the Lords grace and being victorious…. Hehehehe but me also, anyway so I settled for the katemba / drama and pressed forward. Before long, attentive and totally horrified, hair standing from the back of our heads right to our knees, we were electrified as pastor was shouting “daimoni zeekweka mu kappa!” bwoba nga olina kappa eya bulacka eka ewuwo ogwo muzimu!!! Jangu mu maaso!” (Demons hide themselves in cats!! If you have a black cat at your home that is a demon!!! Come to the front!”) Ok press play … In total stunned silence, we couldnt even hear anyone breathing... while we tried to internalize this revelation… a small voice piped up piercing through the silence… ““You’re yaying, yaya yaya pants on faya!” Press stop, quick eject, dash out with the tape still chewed in the cassette player. ******* Update: We have since put Kati (our white cat with black spots) in witness protection closely guarded by Kobe the dog while Coco watches the squirrels suspiciously every time they come frolicking in the compound...
