Vyas river... It originates from Vyas kund near Rohtang Pass. It is carrying lot of silt and debris because of soil erosion. This silt will raise the bottom level of rivers. It will chock hydal power projects, decrease the holding capacity of dams and lead to overflow of rivers. Rapid urbanisation, rampant deforestation and loss of vegetation cover have increased the soil erosion. The top fertile soil, which is formed after many complex geographical and geological processes, is being lost. In absence of this soil it be difficult to do reforestation and restore the ecosystem. Time has come to think and act seriously.
