W. Douglas Murphy The largely attended funeral of Walter Douglas “Doug” Murphy was held from Fundy Funeral Home to St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Rev. Peter Stephen was principal celebrant at the Mass, which was concelebrated by Rev. Douglas McNeill (who preached the homily), Rev. John Beaumaster, Rev. Raymund Stack, Rev. Dr. Brian Hansen, Msgr. Brian Sheehan, J.V., and Rev. Paul LeBlanc. Organist Suzanne O’Leary accompanied cantor Elaine Hatty-Maloney and the Inter-parochial choir. Trumpeter was Don White. The readings were proclaimed by Jim Lane and Peter Murphy. The Psalm was sung by Melody Murphy. Intercessions were read by Steve Murphy. Floral tributes received included those from “Your CTV Family”, IBEW Local 1318 at CTV Atlantic, Halifax, “Friends at the Irving Oil Refinery”, as well as those from family and friends. Donations in memory of Doug were made to Bobby’s Hospice (including those from Friends at St. Mary’s Band, Board of Directors, Management & Staff Hospice Saint John, Management of Cowie and Son Jewellery, Bayview School, and staff at Champlain Heights School); to St. Joachim’s Building Fund; the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick; the Canadian Cancer Society; The Cathedral Building Fund; the Canadian Diabetes Association; Holy Trinity Catholic Church; St. Ann’s Building Fund; Dr. David Stephen Memorial Fund; Romero House Soup Kitchen; Champlain Heights School Library; The Boy’s and Girl’s Club; YM-YWCA of Saint John; Shriners Hospital for Sick Children; St. James Lakewood Church; Sleeping Children Around the World; Robin Award, Centennial School; Children’s Wish Foundation; Cerebral Palsy Foundation Inc.; Kingsway Care Centre; the Turnbull Home; the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of NB Bursary Fund; Saint Mary’s Band; Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund; St. Malachy’s Memorial High School Scholarship Fund; The Salvation Army; IWK Health Centre Foundation and The Arthritis Society. In addition, numerous spiritual and Mass offerings, sympathy cards and online condolences were received. Interment took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, with prayers at the grave offered by Rev. Peter Stephen and Rev. Raymund Stack. The last post was played by trumpeter Don White. The pallbearers were Peter Jensen, Edmund Legere, Philip Murphy and Joseph Williams, nephews of the deceased, and close friends, Christopher Williams and Jérémie Pineau. Honourary pallbearers were George Allen, Robert Bonner, Matthew Bonner, Cliff Boyer, Rita Brooks, Marie Cormier, Dale Estey, Russell Finn, Bruce Holder, Jr., Barry Leger, Michael Leger, J. Paul Leger, Lynn Martin, Robert McKinney, Paul Reid, Fred Ross, Robert Stephen, David Williams and Edward Young. A reception followed the burial at the Simonds Lions Auditorium, Loch Lomond Villa, with music led by Richard Kidd.
