W & S Damn The Future Full Speed Ahead By P. C. Young Jan 26 2015 Summary: Wild and Scenic Damns Californians to be high and dry by not provisioning for a growing population. Rather building Dams storing water that now flows useless, into the ocean will help in providing the necessary resource of water for current and future Californians. As California’s population increases, with even greater numbers of immigrants including illegal immigrants, water becomes the single significant and vital resource. Yet Bills such as SB 1199 the Wild and Scenic River bill will only add greater burdens on a diminishing supply of water and sets none aside for future population growth. Damning Californian’s to struggle over existing supplies and placing ever more restrictive government controls on water: The Vital Resource. Imagine waiting in line for your allocation of water. Just like at the DMV. Gosh .... I cant wait! ********************************************************************************** AB 142 ITS SB1199 ALL OVER AGAIN “Damn the Torpedoes, Full speed ahead!” David Farragut 1864 Flag Officer of the US Navy, famously said during battle of Mobile Bay. This phrase means: forget the consequences we go in that direction. David Farragut is remembered for his bravery during battle and by taking the risk he was successful. Nonetheless he was gambling with men’s lives; Had those “torpedoes” or mines hit his ship. Taking such enormous risks is sometimes warranted when the greater consequence would be losing that battle. In the course of war chances are taken with men’s lives; when no other options exist. In California, the population continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. It is projected to reach 40 million by 2020. Yet California has ample water, as runoff and as water that rains upon the land. Now We can, sadly, watch that water as it wheedles by into the ocean. Bye Bye Water. We may or may not see you again. SB1199 or AB 142 - Does Not Provision for Californias Future. SB 1199 sounds nice and sounds thoughtful. It has one glaring major flaw. It does nothing to better utilize the huge potential California has in water shed and in average rainfall. You would think that people in California were so water rich they did not have to save or store any of it for use in say, the central region, where currently farmers are watching harvests wither and die from lack of water. Why? its more important to send that limited water for use in the Sacramento delta for the fish and to stabilize that fragile ecosystem for fish. You decide. Either fish or people. Fish or people. Having too little water in life saving, life giving reservoirs, collected during rainy seasons to then be used effectively to water BOTH crops and to save fragile ecosystems; for the Fishes and for you and for the farmer and for your garden and washing the car. With plenty of water for all. However, Wild and Scenic SB 1199 now called Assembly Bill 142 says NO. You must be rationed and we must not think about the future. Damn The Torpedoes! Damn the Torpedoes full speed ahead. AB 142 An irresponsible bill that does not provision for future residents but places government restrictions and dispenses with local control over water resources; what does that mean. It means it leaves us squabbling over an ever diminishing supply of water not provisioning for the future by saving this precious life giving resource. Dams do not hold back all of the water that runs to the sea, but some of that water and only locally. If people matter then water reservoirs and dams must be built. Otherwise how will this State keep pace with its rapid population growth? Californians should put their faith in building for the future not damning the consequences. Consequences which mean life or death for some and letting government decide who lives or dies. Do we really want that?
