WA --TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING -- TC Alessia - Blue alert -- UPDATE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 23 Issued at 2:09 pm CST [12:39 pm WST] on Sunday 24 November 2013 A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Kalumburu to Point Stuart, including Darwin and the Tiwi Islands. At 12:30 pm CST [11:00 am WST] Tropical Cyclone Alessia, Category 1 was estimated to be 165 kilometres east northeast of Kalumburu and 340 kilometres west southwest of Darwin and moving east northeast at 18 kilometres per hour. Tropical Cyclone Alessia is a small system and is starting to move away from the north Kimberley coast. GALES with gusts to 95 kilometers per hour are currently affecting the north Kimberley coast and are expected to gradually weaken during today. The tropical cyclone is expected to move towards the western Top End and cross the coast as a tropical low or weak tropical cyclone early on Monday morning, between Darwin and Port Keats. GALES with gusts to 95 kilometers per hour may develop tonight or early Monday between Port Keats and Point Stuart, including Darwin and the Tiwi Islands. Gales may develop south of Port Keats later today if the cyclone takes a more southward track. In the Kimberley, rainfall from this system is likely to be confined to coastal areas with rainfall totals expected to be less than is typical with a tropical low or cyclone. Over the Top End, rain and storms with isolated heavy falls may lead to localised flooding as the system makes landfall and moves inland. DFES-State Emergency Service advises of the following community alerts: BLUE ALERT: People in or near communities between Kalumburu and the WA/NT border, excluding Kununurra, need to prepare for cyclonic weather and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water. The Territory Controller advises residents from the NT/WA Border to Point Stuart that now is the time to make final preparations to your home shelter or identify which public emergency shelter to use.
