#WA #Weather #Corp Continue to take action with the start of bad weather between Nullagine to Murchison to Paynes Find Saturday 25 January 2014 - 8:01 PM If you live in an area bounded by Murchison to Munjina to Nullagine to Jigalong to Paynes Find you should take action and stay safe with the start of bad thunderstorms this evening. This includes people in, near and between Newman and Meekathara and surrounding areas. This is typical weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous. WHAT TO DO: DFES State Emergency Service (SES) has these tips to help you and your family stay safe: • Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows • If caught outside find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams • Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephones if there is lightning • If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. IF DRIVING: • Slow down, turn your lights on and keep a safe distance from other drivers • If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears • Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current • Be careful driving on gravel roads as surfaces will be slippery and muddy and vehicles could become bogged THUNDERSTORM DETAILS: As at 6.30pm on 25 January the Bureau of Meteorology advises there is a risk of severe thunderstorms this evening. Storms are likely to bring strong winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour and heavy rain. Storms may be accompanied by damaging winds and heavy rainfull which may lead to flash flooding. Storms could cause damage to homes and property. Conditions should ease overnight. IMPORTANT NUMBERS: • If your home has been badly damaged by a storm call the SES on 132 500 • In a life threatening situation call 000 • For the latest weather information visit bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 213. After a storm SES volunteers make temporary repairs to homes that have been badly damaged, such as roofs that have been ripped off or large fallen trees on homes and cars. Please contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
