WAFFLE TWELVE page 12 i left school with nothing was going nowhere they did n,t care at compton if u left or stayed i bunked of the last 2 yrs of school done stupid thing,s got arrested can,t tell u what but not good i had to changed not great start in life worked for chelsea &westminister council has a rd sweeper thought it,s money i was on 85 pounds a wk had my own wheelie bin they put me on the king,s rd cheyne walk embankment learning curve for me liked being alone met someone very intresting people i met paddy first rd digger from my dad,s home city tipperary nice bloke we had chats told my life story this man was full of wisdom told me thing,s made me think like a teacher never did for the time i was at school this bloke done in a wk . changed me i was sweeping has u do saw gold hmmmm intresting it was a money holder with the letter,s a.m. but it was holding 400 pounds init i never got excited i kept it for over a wk of course temptation was there but for some reason i held on a wk or so later this posh bloke walked by me was about to say something i thought he won,t because i,m the lowest of the low to him i stopped and said r u mr m he said i am have u lost something he said a gold money holder my late father gave to me did it have money init he said yes so this must be your,s than i,m 17 this bloke cried like a baby and said you don,t know what this mean,s to me i said sir never judge a book by its cover and ho here,s your money his jaw dropped gave me a 100 pounds he said ty and turned to walk away and than he said i,ll never forget you and how kind you are . i,m me ok i,m not hard at all but i knew people who luved me because i was funny respected and ho had one arm that is why i am they way i am just paul . back in the depot there was old tony no one spoke to tony ex marine done 2 tour,s of vietnam but guess who went over me said alright mate wanna a cuppa stuck out my hand if look,s could kill it was his look like gary busel out of big brother frecking mental he took my hand we spoke every day other,s joined in he was funny has hell excuse the pun than i said got any family he turned sad i was 18 now a young man he took his time he had son but no contact in america i said you have to break the ice you tony one day u might regret being stubborn time past this big burly man swaggered in the depot made a beeline for me hugged me and said i rung him my son he want,s me to go home and i,m going paul because of you he put his hand in his pocket gave me a petrol lighter with his army number and outfit i said ton your son would want this more than me mate . i just said give me your hand and i shook it and said goodbye tony he smiled i never saw him again . wks later paul phone call in the office for you hello american accent hi can i help u i,m tony ,s son first thing i said was he ok the voice laughed he told me you would say that i want to thank you paul for bringing my dad home to me and my family he has 2 grand daughter,s who luv him and it,s because of you your an 18 boy with a heart of gold which not a lot of people have i hope life is kind to you paul has you deserve it i said ty we never spoke again but that stay,s with me for ever the morale of this waffle is i learned so much of so many people walking about than i ever did at school i respected people learned to say good morning say hello when to back off or go in all gun,s blazing i will con,t tomorrow much more to my early working life from being stopped outside buckingham on a sunday because i had an irish surname to meeting some very famous people on the king,s rd : )
