WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD … a scriptural guide to daily fellowship with God Rev. Ademola Afolabi Vol. 4 July – September 2013 SUNDAY AUGUST 18, 2013 WHAT GOD REALLY WANTS TO SEE “AND WHEN HE HUMBLED HIMSELF, THE WRATH OF THE LORD TURNED FROM HIM, THAT HE WOULD NOT DESTROY HIM ALTOGETHER: AND ALSO IN JUDAH THINGS WENT WELL”. 2CHRONICLES 12:12 BIBLE READING: 2 CHRONICLES 12:5-7 God has never been known to close his eyes to a humble soul. In the history of mankind, every repentant heart has always obtained the mercy of God no matter the gravity of the error, and irrespective of the status of those involved. Nations, kings and ordinary folks who erred but turned back to God in repentance and humbled themselves have found favour of God to turn away his wrath away on them. Therefore, what God wants to see in people of all nations is a humble spirit before the Lord, a heart that turns away from ungodly activities, and most importantly, God wants Christ formed in peoples’ lives. The whole essence of being born again is to live a life patterned after Christ, a life transformed to conform to the image of the son of God. God is not interested in outward display of piety or flagrant abuse of the grace in Jesus Christ. So, either in a congregational setting or in a personal walk with God day by day, God wants to see a person that is transformed from within that people can indeed call a Christian. Christians would do well to forget about outward appearances to concentrate on the inner man, the spirit man that has experienced the new birth in Christ. In spite of the struggle between the flesh and the spirit, true Christians are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome. Each victory over sin and flesh is a step towards attaining growth in Christ and our growth in Christ is important, for that is all God wants to see! NUGGET: “THE LORD IS NIGH UNTO THEM THAT ARE OF A BROKEN HEART; AND SAVETH SUCH AS BE OF A CONTRITE SPIRIT”. PSALM 34:18
