WANNA LEARN PUPPETRY FOR FREE? SUBMIT FOR OUR PUPPET LAB! DUE MONDAY! Nasty, Brutish and Short presents the Chicago Free Puppet Lab. Accepting Submissions till June 9, 2014. Nasty, Brutish, and Short presents the Chicago Free Puppet Lab. This workshop is designed for professional artists of all disciplines- visual artists, musicians, and performing artists- who have a desire to learn puppetry with some of the most proficient puppeteers in the city of Chicago. The goal of the Lab is to provide a foundation of puppet training that will inform the work of each artist as well as introduce artists from a variety of backgrounds to one another in order to foster the creation of rich, interdisciplinary puppet theater. Topics of study include tabletop puppetry, object manipulation, toy theatre, and found object puppetry. The lab will be a mix of instructional classes, field trips to puppet studios, and workshops as a means to increase knowledge and puppetry skills. Work conceived in the lab will be given will be given the opportunity to continue develop throughout the year as sponsored projects and to receive attention in the form of feedback sessions from Lab participants and established puppeteers. Developed work may perform as part of the Nasty, Brutish and Short Puppet Cabaret. Select works of merit will be chosen to perform at Links Hall in the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival in January 2015. The cost for this training is FREE to those who are chosen. Preference will be given to those who can attend every session: 6/30 (6:30pm-10:00), 7/7 (6:30pm-10:00), 7/14 (6:30pm-10:00), 7/21 (6:30pm-10:00), 7/27 (noon-5pm) If you cannot attend every session, please apply anyway. -What is your artistic background? Visual, performing, musical, etc? -Do you have any puppetry experience? What draws your to the medium of puppetry? -What is a narrative you’d like to create for puppet theatre? Your answer to this question will give us an idea of your interests and creative impulses. This will not necessarily be a piece you will have the opportunity to develop as part of this lab.
