WANT TO UNDERSTAND ADDICTION BETTER READ THIS: I am reposting this to help people better understand how deceptive meth can be. It comes into our lives as a miracle drug. We are getting so much done. We really cant understand why it is illegal at all. We use the drug for just a short period of time. During this short time that we use meth, we really cannot see anything wrong with it. We feel Great. We feel like we can conquer anything. We begin to truly believe in meth. Now we are hooked. We are no longer using the drug. Now the drug is using us. It begins to slowly make us compromise our morals, and our ethics. We start having problems, but we blame everyone and everything but Meth for all these problems. Our memory starts slipping away. Sometimes its what we think we know that really hurts us. The farther away from my addiction that I get the more evident this is. Now I challenge you all whether youve used meth or not to take this short test that will help you better understand what I am talking about. I know it took me 4 months in jail to clear my head enough to even think about getting clean and sober. Ive done a lot of research online about the subconscious mind and addiction and I found some very fascinating information that really helped me in my recovery. I had to change some of my core beliefs mainly that there was nothing wrong with meth. The F Word When we lock-on to a particular truth, we lock-out anything that contradicts it. We create a scotoma, a blind spot. You may have seen the following example before. If not, follow the instructions EXACTLY. Read the following sentence ONCE, and then go on: FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF MANY YEARS OF EXPERTS. Now go back and read the sentence one more time - read it ONLY ONCE, and count the number of letters F. Then go on. I applied this scotoma theory to my belief that there was nothing wrong with meth. And by doing so it opened up enough self doubt to begin to change my belief. I now KNOW Meth is a very Evil, Deceptive and Destructive drug. If youve never seen this before you probably counted three Fs. Actually, there are seven. If you dont believe it, go back to the sentence and find them. What? You still only count three? Hmmm...isnt it amazing what our mind is capable of blocking out? The truth is that there ARE seven Fs. Go back and look again. Pretty powerful stuff our subconscious mind is, if it can hide 4 Fs from us just think what else it can be hiding. eg. all the bad parts of addiction? If you think this is some kind of trick, its not. Go back and be sure to count the Fs in the words OF. Then go on. There, thats better. Since most of us were raised to read phonetically, our minds will only allow us to *see* the Fs that sound like Fs, not those that sound like Vs. The same thing works when we hold strong beliefs, opinions or attitudes. We lock-on to our *truth* as we think it to be, and our minds lock-out anything that contradicts our *truth*. We create a scotoma to the truth. This is a very natural process. Our belief that there was nothing wrong with Meth in the beginning is so strong that even though our lives are falling apart we truly cant see that meth is causing it... Locking on can make change, flexibility, creativity, and the acceptance of a new and better interpretation extremely difficult. When we lock-on to the idea that there is only one way to do something, that there is only one way to interpret evidence, that this paradigm or that paradigm is the only good one, that an alternate interpretation is sheer lunacy, we not only lock-out other ways of interpreting the evidence, we dont even SEE other ways of interpreting the evidence. Thanks for taking the time to read this hope it helps someone. There really is LIFE AFTER METH. here is the link if you would like to read more. sourcetext/sourcebook/essays/scotoma.html
