WARNING - LONG POST. Always felt I could do something more with the Special Cards (Market Shift, Construction Boom etc...). The recent change to a fixed starting position and especially the very recent change to role-playing of a Great American Fortunes of the Gilded Age has just opened up the doors to what I think are very interesting changes. Here is what Im proposing. (1) The BASIC GAME: Each players plays one of the great turn of the century American families. In the basic game each player, regardless of family receives: 1 x Market Shift 1 x Option to Buy 1 x Construction Boom (2) The Advanced Game each player receives extra cards or special abilities loosely based on the historic figures themselves - Morgan being a Banker, he can gather more financial resources; therefore, once per game the player playing him can acquire 2 lots on the same turn. - Carnegies fortune is based on steel; therefore he receives 1 extra Construction boom card since its easily accessible to him. - The Vanderbilt is based on railroads; this network allows them a faster access to material and technology; therefore they only need 2 silvers instead of 3 before upgrading to Gold. - The Astors are the only true real estate fortune in the group; therefore, they have a keener sense for the real estate market. --JJ Astor receives 2 extra Market Shift cards for a total of 3. --WW Astor receives 1 extra market shift and 1 extra Option to Buy. The result is an advanced game with strategies that will vary depending on the character played. Players will also be curious to try out different characters and different strategies increasing replayability. Im looking forward to playtesting myself ;) Your thoughts?
