WARNING: A popular area in the Book Cliffs has been closed to overnight camping due to aggressive bear activity. The area remains open for day use, according to the state Division of Wildlife Resources. The area affected by the closure— the PR Springs-Willow Canyon area — is on the north end of the Book Cliffs in eastern Utah. The Bureau of Land Management enacted the closure after a black bear broke into two camp trailers in the area. A bear also damaged four vehicles belonging to people who were camping in the area earlier this month as part of an environmental protest against the U.S. Oil Sands mine near PR Springs, Uintah County Undersheriff John Laursen said. We’ve set a trap,” Boyde Blackwell, a regional supervisor for the DWR said. We hope to capture the bear soon. If you visit the area during the day, please be aware that an aggressive bear is in the area, Blackwell said.
