WARNING FOR THOSE IN UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA: I want to share an experience I had recently with a local company in an effort to make sure those in my circle dont have to go through the same experience. This past winter, my heat went out in my downstairs unit and I called a company named 5 Star Heating & Air in Greenville, SC. They sent out a technician who, after inspection under my house, told me that my fan unit was burned up by a fire of some sort caused by the sump pump - and that he could fix it for $15,000 - which included the sump pump, gravel in the crawl space, etc. That was far too expensive for me at the time, so I went without heat downstairs for the winter. A few weeks ago, I had someone else come in and look at it (for AC) - and it turns out there was some VERY strong evidence that my fan unit and sump pump were sabotaged. The fan was obviously torched (not by a natural fire), and the sump pump pipes had been chopped up and the parts distributed to the far parts of the crawl space. It also was quite obvious that someone had cut wires and punctured the unit (with something like a screwdriver) spilling oil all over. This person got second and third opinions from other industry professionals, who all verified what he suspected. Upon being made aware of this, I immediately contacted the company through their website - telling them the exact same story. I got an very prompt reply from a lady asking for my address (to pull up my records), and letting me know she was forwarding my concerns to the General Manager - who would follow up with me in a few days. After 2 full weeks and zero response, I followed up to the same lady to say Im assuming our conversation on this matter is over. Again, no response at all. In fact, Ive never heard another word about what, in essence, is an alleged crime by one of their employees. Can I prove it was their guy for sure? No. But I definitely think the fact that they didnt even want to speak to me about it (even to try to claim their innocence) is very suspicious and/or telling. Im not one to focus on negative at all - and, in fact, there have been some great positives that have come from this, including me finding an amazing, high-integrity person that has done some great work around my house. But, I did want to make an effort to keep this company from doing anything like this to others out there, if possible. I also heard (after the fact) from another industry professional, that this company went by a different name, but due to multiple law suits and bad business reputation, they changed their name to 5 Star Heating & Air, repainted all their vehicles, but kept all the same people. Dont know if that is true or not (I didnt care enough to do the research), but at this point, I wouldnt be surprised. Keep in mind this is just my experience - others may have had better. No hard feelings here...all is well and getting better every moment. As Maya Angelou said, When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Please feel free to share this if you feel inclined. Peace.
