WARNING! Long and deep status haha I feel inspired today :) Maybe its the sunshine.... I havent had a television for about 2.5 years now and my life is better for it... Very often I get asked, how can you live without a TV? What do you do if you dont watch TV? I sold and gave away a lot of things including my TV and spent months travelling... within that time I found I have no use for it anymore. Its a habit like any other, not a necessity. Nowadays I try to spend more time talking to people, going outside, getting more hours of sleep, exercising, reading, thinking. I dont care about what the celebrities are doing, what they are wearing or who won a reality TV show... and I choose not to idolise (or hate) people I dont even know, who are actually personalities created by media and editing. Yes I do use the internet, so I cant say I dont use the media... but I feel I can better filter the information I receive and through it I also directly connect with the people I care about, instead of just being fed information I dont need, which is not connected to me in any way. I seek the information and communication I actually want. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a TV show, as I have done that myself in the past. Or being inspired by high profile persons that achieve something you value, like sporting prowess. So I dont judge those who love their TV at all! I dont think Im better than people who watch it - not at all! This isnt what this is about. Im just suggesting a different way of thinking. Keeping an open mind to another way. Something that has worked for ME, and maybe it could work for you :) I just thought Id say this to challenge my friends to give up their TV watching habit, at least temporarily, and see how much time they can make for other things in life! To see that those who dont watch TV are not weird...to remind people how little it matters when someone they dont even know publicly wins some kind of prize And if they find there is no other positive, at least theyll be cutting on electricity costs! :D I read this quote that illustrates really well how I feel about the socially created culture we have - of caring too much about what other people are doing and not focusing on what WE are actually doing to help create a better world.... There is one truth that nobody can debate, and that is that we physically die at some point within the near future, relative to the life spans of everything else in the universe. However, it seems that many forget this fact of life and dedicate great amounts of time and energy towards icons, personalities, and ideas that are unconnected to their own day-to-day lives and do not matter in the grand scheme of things. Think about the massive quantities of time that people spend on these things which have no direct connection to their lives…. all that time which could have been dedicated towards something a bit more constructive or positive in experiential existence (quote excerpt from article: (wakeup-world/2014/02/20/escaping-the-imprisonment-of-cultural-programming/) And if you feel like reading something new today, have a look at this article :) I think if we all did at least one of those things daily, we would enjoy a more positive living experience. If you have time, read this with your morning coffee... wakeup-world/2014/03/19/10-ways-to-shift-your-consciousness/ ...If you got through to the end of this, thank you and have a wonderful day! Much love
