WARNING RANT INCOMING: America, When did we become so damn scared of soul sucking trial lawyers that we allowed common sense to die and total idiocy prevail? I have some farm animals in our small hobby farm and it seems to me that it makes more sense to repurpose stale bread, expired dairy, and over ripe produce then it does to continuously buy specific feed. The pigs will eat anything and you can make an excellent clabber that both the chickens and the pigs love from expired dairy. The bread gets eaten by the chickens, as a treat to the goats, and occasionally to the pigs. Old expired produce is like gold to ALL the animals. Why do we throw this stuff out? If a farmer is looking for the stuff GIVE it to them, or at least sell it at a significantly reduced price. If I have to hear one more comment about liability I might lose my mind. We dispose of 50% of all the food harvested in this country and that is INSANE!!!! We have got to get better America! We shove efficiency and modernization down the throats of every corporation in America, you cant turn around now a days without seeing green this and green that...reuse, repurpose, recycle...LEED, energy efficiency...good god it is like a never ending news real of environmentalist propaganda! But where is the common sense approach to reusing the 50% of perfectly good food we dispose of each and every DAY! I understand liability to people eating it...but it should be able to be sold as Animal grade...for GOODNESS sake! The orchards do it, why not everyone else? Environmentalism is no different then any other cult, it is designed to generate power and money for those that are beating the drum...no money or power in it then they are not interested. Allowing farmers to utilize expired foods, especially breads, dairy, and produce would have a profound effect on the industry, lowering food costs, encouraging healthy animals, and getting away from the homogeneous corn diets we have put our livestock on. Can we use some common sense for once?
