WARRNAMBOOL STANDARD TOOLONG fire brigade officially opened its new $470,000 fire station on Sunday. CFA board member James Holyman unveiled the new facility, which was completed with funding from the Rural Fire Station Building Program. District 5 operations officer Henry Barton said the station upgrade would be a great asset to the brigade supporting its local community. “The station has been built to meet the current needs of the brigade and Belfast Group, both of whom are responsible for protecting lives and property in a growing rural area,” he said. “This facility will be used operationally for the co-ordination of fire fighting activities for Belfast Group on a day to day basis when required. “Volunteer members from the brigade and group worked in conjunction with the CFA to ensure the facility was set up and furnished to best suit their requirements.” It includes a meeting room, kitchen, operations rooms, storage space and a two-bay motor room. The work of volunteers from the Toolong Fire Brigade was also recognised at the ceremony with the presentation of service awards.
