(WASHCO) -- Washington County Hospital officials are pleased with the results of a June 28th disaster drill involving a simulated contaminant spill at Nascote Industries. CEO Nancy Newby says there was one problem highlighted by the drill: the closest Hazmat Response Team is in Mt Vernon despite the potential presented by chemicals used by agriculture and industry in the county....The hospital plans to look further into a proposal by Centerpoint to provide a tele-psych program using video conferencing. It would help patients dealing with coping issues but still leaves the hospital weak on treatment for mental health patients in crisis. On the other hand, Southern Illinois generally is deficient in mental health treatment options...The hospital board has agreed to drop a service contract for anesthesiology due to soaring costs and will instead purchase a second refurbished anesthesiology unit for $15,500 to include a one year warranty.
