WASHINGTON COUNTY HAS ARRESTED 83 DUI DRIVERS IN DECEMBER News Release from Washington Co. Sheriffs Office December 26, 2010--Sheriffs Deputies have arrested 83 DUII drivers thus far this month. This is 83 too many. Drivers are warned that if they drive impaired, they will be arrested. This current ODOT sponsored enhanced DUII safety traffic detail continues through January, 3 2015. Drive sober or get pulled over. December 10, 2014--Sheriffs Deputies will provide extra patrols on Washington County roadways to enhance safety for the extended winter holiday travel period. The Washington County Sheriffs Office would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable traveling experience. The winter holiday period is one of the most dangerous traveling times for crashes due to inclement weather, heavily traveled roadways in combination with impaired, distracted and aggressive drivers. The Sheriffs Office will be providing extra patrols focused on impaired driving from December 12, 2014, through January 3, 2015. From December 5, 2014, through December 8, 2014, Sheriffs Deputies arrested eight impaired drivers and 23 impaired drivers the weekend prior to that. The Sheriffs Office has zero tolerance for impaired drivers that continue to place themselves and others in harms way. Sheriffs Deputies will also be providing enforcement of drivers who are speeding, following too closely, and distracted while using mobile communication devices. These extra patrols were funded by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant obtained through the Department of Transportation. The Washington County Sheriffs Office has a goal to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads, reduce crashes and save lives. The Washington County Sheriffs Office reminds people to have a safe holiday season and designate a sober driver. This is one of several sponsored traffic safety missions. The results will be provided at the conclusion of this extended traffic safety mission.
