WASHINGTON – Washington-area entrepreneur and activist Richard Gilmore has filed his official candidacy papers to run in Iowa Senate District 39. District 39 includes all of Keokuk County; most of Washington County; and portions of western and southern Johnson County, including the communities of Swisher, Shueyville, Oxford, North Liberty, Tiffin, Frytown, and Lone Tree. Gilmore said he decided to run because he’s always believed that government should be used to solve problems, make things work properly and benefit the common good. Gilmore added: “I believe every town in Senate District 39 needs good paying jobs, world-class schools and vibrant Main Streets. We don’t have this now. Our elected officials have been focused on scoring political points and rewarding themselves while they should have been working together to achieve progress for the people of Iowa.” Gilmore grew up on a farm in Eastern Iowa and is a graduate of the United Electronics Institute in West Des Moines. He has worked as a factory serviceman, as well as repairing televisions, medical and x-ray equipment. Gilmore has built houses for Habitat for Humanity, as well as serving as trustee chair and finance chair for the United Methodist Church of Washington. Gilmore also works with the Furniture Ministry to collect good used furniture for distribution through HACAP. He is also an avid bicyclist, including serving as President of the Iowa Bicycle Racing Association. Gilmore and his wife, Robin Plattenberger-Gilmore, have been married for 40 years. Richard and Robin adopted two children, who are now grown. Robin is a family physician in Washington. “Please contact my campaign if you have an idea for moving Iowa forward. I can be reached at (319) 461-8550, or emailed at gilmore39senate@gmail.”
