WASTEFUL BUT REMORSEFUL (3) Previously we have considered some of the lessons from the story of the prodigal son, and there are still several to learn from the same: Lesson 6) When you refuse to gladly give towards the right course, you will sadly dance to a wrong tune. He was badly hit by the famine that “…he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.” (Luke 15:16 NKJV). People do “gladly” and involuntarily bear some pains. If you are responsible for what you are suffering, you would hardly complain. The young man would “gladly” do anything, even the unthinkable, eating from the thrash! One of his many errors was that, when he had so much, he wouldn’t put the things of God on his agenda. He wouldn’t sow into any worthy course. All he had was lavished on frivolities. And if you sow only to your flesh, you will reap corruption (Galatians 6:8). “No one gave him anything” in his time of need because he gave to no one when he had. If you must receive from others, you are required to give also. 7) Whatever you lack is never in short supply; you only need to be properly connected to the right place. That is all we need: divine location and connection. This much the young man came to realize: “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘how many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.” (Luke 15:17). Going down is not a much trouble like when your understanding is locked down. When you see a man whose understanding is locked down, things will be going awry, and he won’t realize it; he won’t discover himself until it becomes irredeemably late! This man realized the same shortage he was dying of was in abundant supply at another place, that even the slaves had enough to give away! Our problem is not scarcity really but wrong location and poor connection! 8) If you keep rehearsing and postponing the necessary decisions or step you are supposed to take, you will stale. Having discovered himself, he began the rehearsal of what to do: “I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.’” (V 18-19). When he was through with all that, instead of postponing, “…he arose and came to his father…” (V 20). You too have had enough rehearsal. You have postponed the necessary steps long enough. Rise up and take the right steps today. When you don’t rise, nothing rises around you. You can’t change your destination by sticking to the same direction. Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You because all that I need are in abundant supply. I ask in your mercy that You divinely locate and connect me to my source of abundance in Jesus name. I declare that there is no more room for endless rehearsal and postponement in my life. With the help of the Holy Spirit, I rise to take every necessary step towards my breakthrough in Jesus name. Amen.
