Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. 21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? 23 Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers! As sheep, they: - Are among us - Look like us - Smell like us - Feed like us (eat what we eat) - Sound like us (confess, testify, prophesy and even preach like us) But because they are not SHEEP but wolves, they are: - Not of us - Not with us - Not for us - Feeding on us (they are among us to scatter, dilute, deceive, kill, defile and compromise us) - Not known to our Master Do not be deceived by their gifts, powers, talents, signs and wonders, but look for fruit of righteousness, godliness, love and fear for God Warning the leaders of Ephesus before parting with them for the last time, Paul the Apostle said of these WOLVES IN SHEEPSKINS in Acts 20: 25 Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I KNOW THAT AFTER I LEAVE, SAVAGE WOLVES WILL COME IN AMONG YOU AND WILL NOT SPARE THE FLOCK. 30 EVEN FROM YOUR OWN NUMBER MEN WILL ARISE AND DISTORT THE TRUTH IN ORDER TO DRAW AWAY DISCIPLES AFTER THEM. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. 32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. 35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” 36 When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. 37 They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. 38 What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship. HE DIRECTLY WARNS THAT DECEIVERS AND WOLVES WOULD BE FROM WITHIN THE CHURCH AND TELLS US IN VERSES 33-35 HOW TO SPOT THEM: 1. They will covet your wealth and material possessions 2. They will be generally lazy to work physically towards earning their income 3. They will be insensitive to the needs of their fellow workers 4. They will not care for the weak 5. They will be greedy and mean (stingy) THOUGH THIS LIST IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE, IT PAINTS A PICTURE OF A TYPICAL WOLF IN A SHEEPSKIN. PLEASE DO NOT MISTAKEN PHARISAICAL AND PRETENTIOUS GIVING WITH GENEROSITY BECAUSE MANY MODERN WOLVES LOVE TO MAKE AN OPEN SHOW OF FALSE GENEROSITY AGAINST THE MASTERs MODEL OF GIVING IN MATTHEW 6 : “1 Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. THESE WOLVES (and some ignorant believers) NEVER GIVE UNLESS THE NEWSPAPERS OR TV JOURNALISTS ARE THERE TO ANNOUNCE AND BROADCAST IT. SUCH GIVING IS WORLDLY MARKETING AND A PUBLICITY STUNT, NOT BIBLICAL GENEROSITY. REMEMBER - IN THE PROCESS OF HELPING THE POOR, THE TRUE SHEEP AND FLOCK OF THE LORD JESUS DO NOT HUMILIATE THEM! FOR IF THEY HAD BELONGED TO US, THEY WOULD HAVE REMAINED WITH US, BUT THEIR GOING SHOWED THAT NONE OF THEM BELONGED TO US. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life. 26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. 28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.
