WATCHOUT FOR PAYBACK. . .! Beloved, beware of the spirit of revenge; of harboring or holding on to grudges with the intent of striking back at folk. It is a deadly trap that yields as great if not a far greater danger to the one who sets the trap than to the person hoped to be caught in the trap! And it does so because in seeking revenge or payback against those whom we feel have wronged us, no matter how right we are and how horrible the wrong is, we make ourselves out to be God, assuming upon ourselves an action that is reserved only for God! (Deuteronomy 13:35; Romans 12:19) In a murderous plot against David saturated with betrayal and deceit and quite possibly borne out of his desire for revenge; a plot mind you, which was exposed and overturned by God, the very prominent and promising life of Ahithophel ended in this very sad manner: And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father. (2 Samuel 17:23). Beloved, as the above Scriptures declare; Vengeance belongs to the Lord. We are to therefore recompense [payback] to no man evil for evil. (Romans 12:17)The spirit of revenge is a trap that cannot be set without its deadly jaws being, in someway, clamped down upon the one who set the trap!! Let God handle His business and in doing so, he will handle your business as well!! Be blessed!
