WATER LINE PROJECT ON PWN TONIGHT There will be an emergency replacement of 130 feet of water line tonight on Portland Way North, from the bridge to Heise Park Lane. Water in this area will be shut off at 10 p.m. and the work will be done overnight. The city has notified all affected residents and business owners. Businesses in the area that are normally open late will close early this evening. Safety-Service Director John Swain said they hope to have everything up and running again on Friday by 6 a.m. There have been issues with the water line since last week. On Sept. 8, Mayor Tom O’Leary reported that it was another complication to the road widening project, which has been moving along “torturously slow.” The administration has talked to the Ohio Department of Transportation about getting the southern section of the project completed. The sidewalk and curbing on the west side of the road needs to be installed, which is why it remains blocked off. “The contractor needs to get out there. We are running out of time and I’m uncertain if the north end will be completed this year,” he stated. On the other hand, the replacement of the Portland Way bridge continues to progress. The sub-contractor has 90 days to get the project complete, as there is a significant charge to them for each day the bridge does not re-open (after the 90-day window). O’Leary also reported that about $330,000 in residential street paving will still be done this year. City Council appropriated the funds and the projects have gone out for bid. The paving will start by October.
