WATER police are investigating after a teenage boy attending a scout jamboree in Mt Martha was seriously injured in a boating accident on Wednesday. The 13-year-old, of metropolitan Melbourne, was sitting on the front of the boat when he fell off and was struck by the propeller at about 1pm. Sergeant Adrian Sinclair, of the Marine Investigation Unit, said it appeared the boy was one of six on the boat with a scout leader doing manoeuvres. After the accident the leader pulled him from the water and the boat was driven back to shore. The boy suffered serious lower limb and arm injuries and was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital. A spokesperson on Friday said he was in a “critical condition”. The boat has been seized and the operator is assisting police with their inquiries.
