WAVES OF GRACE And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. John 1:16 Have you ever stood on the beach with the surf pounding upon you, one wave after another? As the waves continue to roll in, the ocean lays an uniquely beautiful seashell at your feet. The waves are a wonderful example of what the Apostle John means by the phrase, “grace for grace“. God’s abundant grace is constantly poured out on His children. There is no end to God’s grace. Paul calls it “exceeding abundant grace” in 1 Tim. 1:14. Grace is The favor that God bestows upon believers when they really deserve His wrath. We are saved by grace (Eph. 2:8). We grow in His grace (2 Pet. 3:17). When we are in the midst of storms, we are kept and comforted by God’s grace (2 Cor. 12:9). Not only are we drenched in God’s amazing grace, but sometimes He leaves little treasures right in front of us, like the seashell. We often overlook the little blessings that God sends. These can be the song of a bird, a babbling brook or the aroma of a flower garden. These blessings can vary from person to person and time to time. My favorite “little blessing” is seeing a butterfly. I am visually impaired and I don’t see them very often. When God sends one my way, I exclaim, “oh, thank You God!!” Let us not overlook the little blessings and let us not get so accustomed to the constant waves of grace that we forget to be thankful. NOTE: It has been a long time since I have seen a butterfly. I don’t doubt that He would send one by, and it would be a miracle, not just a “little blessing”. Copyright © 2012 Carolyn Newell.
