WBO GIVES SHORT EXTENSION FOR LEE-SAUNDERS PURSE BID The WBO has granted a short extension to the negotiations deadline between WBO middleweight titlist Andy Lee, and his mandatory contender, Billy Joe Saunders. The sides now have until Monday (January 19th) to negotiate a deal, or else the WBO will hold a purse bid (auction) for the rights to promote the fight. In December, Lee won the vacant title with a come-from-behind stoppage of Matt Korobov. The title became vacant when Peter Quillin turned down over a million dollars rather than face Korobov. Saunders is 21-0 and holds the European, British and Commonwealth championships. His last four bouts have all been wins over previously undefeated opponents.
