WCHE NEWS - During its reorganization meeting last night, Coatesville City Council appointed a new President and Vice President. Council selected Linda Lavender-Norris as its new President by a vote of 5 -1. After thanking them, Lavender-Norris encouraged her fellow council members saying, “we can do better and we will do better.” Council then selected Marie Lawson its new Vice President also by a vote of 5 – 1. Lawson expressed optimism for the city saying, “we are destined for great things in 2015.” Former President Joseph Hammrick described the appointments as “a needed change.” Councilwoman Ingrid Jones cast the dissenting votes. Meanwhile, not much changed in East Goshen Township. Supervisors unanimously reappointed Martin Shane as Chairman and Senya Isayeff as Vice Chair. Supervisors then discussed a new ordinance that bans the use of model aircraft below 200 feet within the township. The ordinance cites residents’ safety and privacy as concerns for banning radio controlled or uncontrolled-power aircraft to fly above properties. One resident spoke out against the ordinance fearing it could put hobby stores out of business. Supervisors expressed concern that aircraft equipped with image capturing technology could survey residents without their knowledge or consent.
