WCHE NEWS - Governor-elect Tom Wolf will be sworn in tomorrow and he may be in for a difficult first year in office. Radio PAs Rachel McDevitt reports Democrat Wolf has said his priorities lie with changing the income tax, funding education with a possible shale gas severance tax, and throwing out Governor Corbett’s Healthy PA Medicaid expansion in favor of a more traditional one. Republican leaders have laid out what they want, too: pension reform and liquor privatization. Political analyst Dr. Terry Madonna says Wolf could have a rough time trying to work with the conservative legislature, but he can learn from past governors. Madonna explains, “Evolve, be flexible, adapt, have political skills. A lot of people don’t like to hear me say that because of the disdain for politicians, but you need skills. You need to communicate with people”. Madonna says the biggest challenge Wolf faces is probably Pennsylvania’s $2 billion structural deficit.
