Each would have their own feelings and emotions but certainly unforgettable. . Super Saturday was here and if every Saturday was a special as this life would be wonderful and we would never tire of the beauty and pleasure of dance.. The song may say April in Paris but without a doubt December at the New York Hotel, Disneyland makes Paris truly special the place dancers and dance lovers wish to be. Dancers from 47 countries have made the journey, many travelling over oceans and continents to be a part of a great dance event. Unless you are here it is hard to truly understand the feelings of family, the emotions, the inspiration, the pride in what the Amateur League has created and will continue to create. Once we hoped to make a better world but now we see it is a reality and it is a world more and more want to share. In both ballrooms doors opened at 9.00 and competitions began at 9.30 and the brilliant day was underway. The Grand Ballroom commenced with Pro-Am and then many Fred Astaire Cup events for all ages. whilst Times Square kicked of in a magnificent way with a great Under 19 World Latin Championship followed by Under 14 World Ballroom Both finals would take place during the night time session.Championships. .These young supremely talented dancers are a part of our future, and our future is safe in their hands, feet, minds and above all hearts.. What a wonderful artistic and cultural activity our dance is and one is filled with admiration for the discipline, dedications, inspiration, for all ages but especially our Juveniles, Junior and Youth. One could feel the spine tingling the anticipation building as we approached 11.20 and the 1st round of the 2014 Open World Amateur Latin Championship. with a record number of entries.. That Open World Championships are the right decision is clearly demonstrated here. Every dancer has the right to experience the thrill of participating in a World Champions rather than this being restricted to 1 or 2 selected couples and sometimes selected by those wanting to wield their own power and influence . As the event commenced we knew this was heading to be a Championship filled with many moments to remember for a long time if not for ever. There were no Exempt couples with every entrant dancing from Round 1 and each of the 6 heats had so much talent, mouth watering with so many stars of the dance world it was hard to know where to look. Many regular winners and finalists were not receiving recalls from the 2nd round onwards such was the quality of dancing. . The audience were caught up in the atmosphere living the event with the dancers and giving great support.. Although the Amateur Latin Championship was perhaps the Star of the day there were so many other Championships and events going on - 26 in total !. The other major World Championships for the day were Under 12 Ballroom - Restricted syllabus, Under 12 Latin, Under 14 Ballroom, Under 19 Latin, Under 21 Ballroom, Over 35 Ballroom, Over 45 Latin, plus the World 5 dance Ballroom Wheelchair and all would conclude early evening or during the night session. Then we also had The Fred Astaire Cup Professional Rising Stars Latin, Fred Astaire Cup Professional Ballroom, Fred Astaire Cup Pro Am 5 dance Latin. A magnificent selection of Championships and each with brilliant dancing creating many headaches for the Adjudicators. At the start of the evening session came a surprise. No Maracas !! Instead we were all given plastic clapping hands.. If the applause needed a boost it was given one in abundance now. The semi finalists and finalists in each World Championships must have been inspired by the support and enthusiasm of the spectators who clearly showed how much they loved every moment and every couple was receiving generous applause. The atmosphere was steadily building as we approached the 24, 12, 6 of the Amateur Latin and no one was disappointed as it unfolded. The videos of these couples will be watched and watched again around the world and many will try to copy or purloin the developments introduced by these couples with their brilliant coaches. Doubtful if the same standard will be achieved without the knowledge, ability, technique. The semi and final were Blackpool style single dance recalls and many couples must have enjoyed the thrill of dancing even one dance in a semi final although the same 6 couples appeared in each dance in the final. The audience were giving each couple huge support in Cha Cha and Samba but it was a spellbinding moment when during the Rumba the entire dance was performed in total silence but with spectacular applause after.. It was good to see the tradition being followed with the audience standing to show their appreciation for the final quickstep of the Professional Ballroom and Amateur Latin. Two special events. The Competitors Commission to show their support for young dancers gave each finalist a Sponsorship. Generous indeed and again signifying the unity of the Professionals and Amateurs in the WDC family. Presenting all the prizes tonight was the President of Fred Astaire, the generous sponsors of the World Latin Championship tomorrow, Mr Jack Rothweiler accompanied by his delightful wife Beth.
