WE ARE ALL CHARLIES Communique No.2 While the eyes of the world (according to the media anyway) were swivelling in the direction of Paris. The plights of Raif Badawi and many others like him were studiously ignored by the denizens of the 24 hour news cycle. Raif was led from prison in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday past, to a public square where a large crowd gathered to watch him receive 50 lashes. He will receive a public flogging of 50 lashes for the next 20 weeks. Raif is apparently guilty of running a website devoted to freedom of speech. He is also apparently guilty of apostasy..(.no Im not sure what it is exactly either, particularly in this context). So what are our governments doing about this? Nothing...well, it is Saudi Arabia, the best customer of the arms manufacturers of the US, the UK and France.
