WE ARE ALL MIRRORS We are all mirrors. What we see in others is a reflection of how we perceive ourselves. I love this picture of my children. We had gone on a summer trip and they were fascinated by the shiny ball they were looking at. They stayed in that part of the garden for a long, long time playing with that ball… making faces at it, getting close, pulling away… each time checking if the ball would capture their gestures, moods, and thinking. What if we are all shiny balls reflecting back what we see in each other? What if what we reflect back is stamped by our beliefs, values, and judgments? What happens then? As they interacted with the ball, my children checked to see if it mirrored back exactly what they had done. As they interacted with me, they did the exact same thing… except I was no shiny ball. I had my own tainted glasses through which I viewed the world and I passed many of those views onto them. I have distorted their perceptions… because what I reflected back to them or anyone else for that matter was a direct application of my own beliefs, values, and judgments at that time. To me, viewing self and others with the eyes of the heart is now the key to become a shiny ball. As I have compassion for me, I have compassion for others. Compassion allows me to remove the filters through which I view the world. Funny thing is, the world is becoming a shiny place in return. What if we all got our shiny ball on? How would the world be different? @DovBaron #authentic #speaker #academy for #leadership asaleadership
