WE ARE CURIOUS! As we develop a new website we are pondering changes. One consideration we had was to create a blog page with questions/answers for the Deaf! We have come across Deaf individuals who dont know interesting tidbits of trivia which could be of service to them. For example many Deaf individuals dont know that Hearing people can often peg an individuals race or gender when they hear their voice on the phone. Many people dont know that keyboards on their computers click when you type on them, or that a laptop sounds completely different than a desktop keyboard. Many Deaf people cant understand how it is that Hearing people cant UNDERSTAND a voice even if its loud. The blog wouldnt just be interesting pieces of Hearing trivia, but it would include answers to commonly asked questions which we hear some individuals would love to ask. What are the signs for Twitter and Instagram? What rights do the Deaf have at a concert? Any suggestions on writing a letter of complaint? Do interpreters want feedback? What colleges are the best places for the Deaf to go? How do we convince parents to learn sign language? How do the Deaf get needed accessibility at a hotel? What do other sign languages look like? Etc. If this blog sounds like a good idea, please let us know! We would be willing to take questions, all types of questions, and provide answers. Our hope is that maybe the Deaf Community would find it a safe place to get answers to questions they often never think to ask or dont feel comfortable to ask. What do you think?
