WE ARE HIRING! We are seeking a passionate, committed, experienced and energetic part-time community organizer to help build a movement of Latina Immigrants on long Island. SEPA Mujer, Services for the Advancement of Women, is a community-based not for profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of Latina immigrant women through development of leadership skills, community organizing, community education, legal advocacy and legal representation for those who are victims of crimes. Learn more about our programs and advocacy at sepamujer.org, our office is located at Touro Law Center, PAC 210,225 Eastview Drive-Central Islip. Job Title: Community Organizer Part time job, with the possibility to expand Responsibilities: • Plan and coordinate community meetings, public events, rallies, protest, press conferences, trainings, and forums • Manage the creation and implementation of campaigns to promote women’s rights and gender equality. • Recruit and mobilize members to be a part of the Latina Womens Movement in Long Island. • Coordinate with our allies on Long Island in community efforts. • Conduct our monthly leadership meetings in Central Islip and Hampton Bays. • Organize legislative meetings, trainings and direct action mobilizations. • Raise funds through special events and other activities. • Assist with administrative duties as needed. • Good knowledge and use of social media • Computer skills, including: word processing, databases, excel and power point • Well-organized and self-motivated Job requirements: • Minimum 2 years organizing experience. • Experience working with Latina immigrants groups and knowledge of women’s issues, gender inequality and women’s rights. • Experience working in Long Island. • Self-motivated and dedicated, with a proven ability to work independently and overcome obstacles. • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. • Open to working some evenings and weekends. • Willing/able to travel throughout Long Island. • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet goals and deadlines while working independently. • Strong work ethic, ability to multi-task, and commitment to local organizing. • Bi-lingual/bi-cultural English – Spanish. • Access to reliable car and valid driver license.
