WE ARE NOW IN PORTLAND Dear Friends and family, Things changed again....the short story is....When the medical team at SCI UNIT at the Seattle VA spoke to Carls neurosurgeon, Dr. Cetus, in Portlandtoday and shared all the recent details of the surgical wound, he said to send Carl back to Portland. The site of where his surgery was done, there is an opening which is draining heavily and the gauze which was suppose to be extracted 6 inches a day, is breaking off and they are losing the tail and slipping back inside.....this is not what they want to happen.....so this is the issue which needs to be addressed. We became more comfortable with the team in Seattle and Carl made some good connections with the physical therapist who is helping refit his chair with a different back and also a new cushion....he hopes to continue with her once he is through his recovery period. The medical team sent us off with the invitation, he can return at anytime he needs their services...it is good that he is now in their system and can get his annual checkups there. Arrangements were made and he was transported to the VA this afternoon. I left the Fisher House, which treated me so well and I drove south, arriving a little before Carl. Carl was welcomed back with familiar faces of his night nurses, lots of smiles and a really nice room with a view. I saw how he relaxed and was glad to be in Portland. I brought him up dinner, tucked him in and he was happy. He is on the floor 5D, in room 112. Tomorrow he hopes to see Dr. Cetus and make a plan to help with his recovery get back on track. Carl does welcome visitors and is now improving his food intake and agrees he needs to eat more and gain weight. Anyway, Im happy to be home.....happy Carl is in good hands....and I TRUST all will work out. Thank you for holding our hands and hearts...and for your continued prayers.
