WE CELEBRATE HIS LIFE-REST IN ETERNAL PEACE SANDIE BANDA! My last encounter with Sandie Banda was planned by God on the 07th March 2014. After checking in the plane, sat for 45minutes then being told that the plane was concelled till the following day, I immediately knew God wanted me to meet with Sandie. Without hesitance I called him and told him we should meet at the hotel. I thought God wanted me to give him the money I had set aside for him, but NO! God had another reason why he couldn’t allow me to leave Cape Town without meeting my brother Sandie. Vilole Images Productions (VIP) Board of Directors and Staff are saddened by the passing on of a friend, brother and passionate filmmaker-Sandie Banda. We join everyone in celebrating his life today and we will continue to celebrate him. MHSRIEP! When Sandie resigned from his job in the mid-2000, he joined VIP as a volunteer. He was later recommended to attend a Southern Africa Communication for Development (SACOD) training in screen writing and project development in Pretoria-SA. After the training he proceeded to Cape Town to study theatre art/acting. He returned just in time when VIP was in pre-production of the feature film Suwi and took up the role of assistant to the director. End of February this year when I went to Cape Town for a Media, Film and Gender Advocacy training, we reconnected and he really wanted to meet with me. He wanted to talk to me. Through our conversation he shared a few things and I felt it was good for me to touch base with my fellow artist who was away from home. I set aside some Rands and thought I would give him once we link up. Both our schedules were tight and I was staying far from where he was. The night before I left we talked and it was really sad that I was unable to meet him. I recall assuring Sandie that if God wanted us to link-up it shall come to pass. I prayed and asked God for his will to be done. My flight was early on the 06th March. Got to the airport and checked in as usual. The plane was ready to take off and it moved a bit. Then it was off. After 45minutes it was announced that the plane had a fault and we were asked to dis-embark. Then I was told there was no flight to Livingstone till the following day. Immediately Sandie’s name came into my mind and I knew God wanted me to meet Sandie. When I called him, he was equally shocked for he expected me to be in JHB at that time. I was happy as I wanted to give him the envelope. With my thinking I believed the money I had set aside was really meant for him and that is what stopped the plane, but NO it was more than that. Later in the afternoon Sandie met me at the hotel, he looked tired. I excitedly told him God had answered our prayers and gave him the envelope. We sat and chatted. He shared very personal stuff and told me he really wanted to meet me because I was the first person from Zambia who was more of a sister he was sharing this with. 2-3 days ago he had just been told by the doctors that he had kidney failure. The hospital, his church and host had been very helpful to him, but it was not that easy. There and then I knew this was the most important reason why God cancelled my flight-to listen to a friend, a brother, a fellow filmmaker and share the burden he was carrying. (God’s plans are not ours and his plans always come to pass at his own appointed time-This is the lesson I learned from this trip) We prayed together, I encouraged him and as you all know Sandie we chatted and laughed till he left. I had been in touch with him except for the last 3 weeks because I had been traveling. As VIP we thank God for the time we shared with Sandie and we celebrate his life. He will surely be missed! MHSRIEP!
