WE REMEMBER AND WILL NEVER FORGET JAMES D. HILL, January 4, 1993, Private assigned to Engine 31, was one of two firefighters critically injured when the roof collapsed during a fire at the Pilgrims Hope Baptist Church at 3084 Woodrow Street at 1:58 p.m. on December 26, 1992. He was trapped beneath debris and severely burned. He was transported to the Burn unit at the Regional Medical Center, where he died on January 4, 1993. J. D. Hill, 45, had been with the department for 22 years. He was the father of two children. Firefighter Hills family have become strong supporters of The Fire Museum, and are valued members of our extended family. You can find them at a number of events that we hold throughout the year, honoring J.D.s memory.
