WE STILL HAVE A DREAM COALITION Dear Family and Friends, Who among us will ever forget August 28, 1963, when Dr. Martin Luther King made his dream ours with the powerful vision and words, “I have a dream….” Our Los Angeles community will come together on Saturday, August 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Leimert Park (43rd and Crenshaw) for a march and rally IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE AUGUST 24TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON. We will be joining events throughout the country to commemorate that historic day 50 years ago. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Can you please send a donation to help support this momentous event? We need funding for the stage, sound system and the crew to maintain it, for printing, permit fees, and other incidentals. If you are able to provide any of these items, please notify us. Donations can be sent to commoncause.org/ca/supportmovi. We also need certified health professionals for first aid and volunteers for security, set up, clean up, hospitality, and outreach. Dr. King dreamed that all people would come together in brotherhood. He dreamed about the day when all people would be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. Although we have seen some progress, we are again at great risk of losing the gains that we have achieved in the struggle thus far. Our fundamental voting rights are in great jeopardy. “Stand your ground” laws that encourage lethal violence are on the books in far too many of our communities. And so… 50 years later, our work continues. Let us all stand together and make Dr. King’s dream a reality. Standing with us in organizing this event are Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, the NAACP, the MLK Coalition, Word Empowerment Ministries, the ACLU, MoveOn.org, Common Cause, and MOVI. There will be performances by the First AME Church Unity Choir, and the KJLH Performing Arts Choir, along with a few exciting surprises and an incredible line up of speakers and more to be announced.
