WEATHER ALERT BULLETIN PYROCUMULONIMBUS OFF THE BEAVER FIRE JUST TO THE SOUTH OF ASHLAND After receiving two reports of people near Ashland hearing thunder, did some checking with NWS. It is official...the column off the Beaver Fire IS producing lightning. This is not a great amount of activity, but it has produced weak in plume discharges. This accounts for the reports of thunder being heard. Looking at the current satellite data, the columns off the Oregon Gulch, Day, and Eiler Fires may produce an occasional bolt of lightning. Most lightning is expected to remain in plume, but it is not out of the realm of possible for a ground strike.
